Description

Around the Mouilles plateau. Children from the hamlets of Jambaz, Mouilles, La Côte and Les Pontets used to get to school in Bellevaux on these trails in summer and winter.
Nature and Heritage: In 1860, Anastasie Favre, a resident of Mouilles, had a statue of the Virgin Mary once worshipped in Nifflon. There was a fire in the village and she put the statue opposite the flames and they turned away as if repelled by a mysterious hand. A chapel was built in tribute in 1875. The chapel was blessed on October 3rd 1877 and its festival is held on July 15th every year. Route details: Set off from Bellevaux past Les Contamines (oratory), Le Champ du Noyer (oratory) and along the path up to Jambaz where you cross the B road. Take the public highway through the village then head towards Mouilles (uphill from La Chaux). You will come out onto a plateau where you can see the first houses in the village of Mouilles and the chapel, a little to your left. Go up to Mouilles then before you reach the hamlet, take the path on the right to La Côte. Obviously you can go for a look around Mouilles to see the chapel. Once you reach La Côte, go on the little road on the right to "Sur les Monts". This little-used hairpin road will take you to the village via "Le Petit Mont". Useful information: yellow or yellow and red markings.
